Looking for tips on how to Decorate a Christmas tree?
It’s that time of year when the weather cools down, and we get to enjoy hot cocoa and wear our favorite boots!
Every year, I decorate our tree a little differently. Some years, I add ribbon, while in others, I skip it. Some years, I’ll use picks as the topper, and in some years, I opt for a big bow! The possibilities are endless, but the steps always remain the same.
Here’s an easy guide to follow that will give you that Pinterest-Perfect tree!

How to Decorate a Christmas Tree in 5 Steps
Step 1: Pick a Tree
There are so many tree options out there that it can be tough to pick. Do you want a flocked tree, lightly frosted tree, green tree, or the real thing? I love the look of a natural tree, and you can’t forget that amazing pine smell, but I usually go for artificial trees because I don’t have to water them, lol.
The Christmas tree pictured above is my 7ft dining room tree and is gorgeous in person! It’s nice and full and great for smaller spaces. You can find it here.
Once you take your tree out of the box, you are going to give it a good fluff, and I mean a good fluff. Don’t skip this step; it might seem boring, but you’ll see it’s worth it. If your tree doesn’t come with gloves, you can use regular dishwashing gloves and designate them as your fluffing gloves.
You’re going to want to separate your branches and fan them out like a star. Doing this to each branch will make the tree look fuller, and any openings you have left will be covered with ornaments, so don’t worry.π

Step 2: Lights
Next, you need to pick your lights. Do you like warm lights or colorful lights? Do you like the twinkle ones or do you prefer led?
I’m a sucker for the warm white lights, they’re so pretty and classic. Here are some pretty options I found for lights.

Step 3: Ribbon or Garland
The next step is to add your ribbon or garland. When picking a ribbon for your tree, choose one that is wired. Wired ribbon is easier to manipulate, and it won’t droop on the tree. A wider ribbon looks best, so opt for one that is at least 2 inches.

Step 4: Ornaments & Picks
There are a variety of packs that make it easy and already include different ornaments and colors that complement each other and give you a cohesive look.
I try to do something different every year with each of my trees. I use what I already have and add a few new things each year.
Here are some pretty options that are gorgeous and budget-friendly. My two favorite combinations π
Step 5: Picking Your Base & Tree Topper
The last step is to pick your tree base and topper! There are so many pretty styles, my favorite is always a tree skirt and a bow.
BONUS TIP: You can also use a throw blanket as your tree skirt! I do this all the time, and it looks very beautiful. Once you’re done using it, just throw it in the wash!
Now sit back and enjoy your masterpiece! I wish you a beautiful holiday season π
