Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to get creative with your home decor! From spooky wreaths to carved pumpkins, there’s no shortage of fun ideas to get your home ready for the season. But if you’re looking for a cute (and slightly spooky) DIY project that’s simple and budget-friendly, I got you! Drumroll, please… DIY Ghost Children made from pool noodles!

Yes, you read that right—pool noodles aren’t just for swimming! This easy-to-make craft will add some adorable ghostly charm to your Halloween decor, and the best part is, they’re super inexpensive and you can create as many as you’d like. This is one of my favorite DIYs, and every time I post them on social, they go viral! I’m telling you, they’re just too adorable not to make.

How to Make the Cutest DIY Ghost Children Using a Pool Noodle

Supplies

Before getting started on this super cute DIY ghost decoration, here’s what you’ll need:

• 3 pool noodles (if you’re going to make 2 ghosts)
• A tablecloth (or an old sheet)
• Toddler size pants
• Small kids shoes
• Trick or treat pail (these target ones are $1)
• Packing Tape
• Scissors
• Black felt
• Glue dots
• S hook or you can also use a zip tie

Step 1

Grab a pool noodle and bend it in half. If you’re making both a shorter and taller ghost like I did, you’ll need 3 pool noodles.

For the taller ghost, tape 2 noodles together, then trim off the extra length to get the height you want. I ended up cutting about 10 or 11 inches. Once you’re happy with the height, tape the pieces together.

Step 2

Next, slip your toddler pants over the pool noodles like you’re dressing them up!

Step 3

When picking out shoes, go for something with a little weight to it. That’ll help keep your ghost steady and prevent it from tipping over.

For reference, the shoes I used are size 6 and size 10 for toddlers.

Step 4

Now it’s time to drape your tablecloth or sheet over your ghost! When cutting the felt for the eyes, go for an oval shape instead of round to nail that ghostly vibe. Then, use glue dots or any adhesive you prefer to stick the eyes on.

Step 5

Add a cute bow, grab a trick-or-treat pail, and guess what? You’re all done!

As long as you have high-quality artificial plants specifically designed to withstand outdoor conditions, you can use them outdoors without any problems. Fortunately, there are many great options available now, including UV-resistant flowers, in different price ranges.

1. Choose High-Quality Artificial Flowers

Not all artificial flowers are created equal. Make sure to choose UV-resistant artificial flowers and foliage when creating an outdoor arrangement. UV-resistant options are for outdoor use and will better withstand outdoor conditions. They will also look more convincing and maintain their color and shape better over time.

I tried growing lavender in my garden this year, and unfortunately, did not succeed. The vision I had was a planter full of lavender, and when that wasn’t going to happen, I went online and ended up finding these faux lavender stems on Amazon!

Fill the bottom of your planter with foam blocks, floral foam, or floral wire to anchor the stems securely, which is what I did. You can also use rocks or sand for added weight to prevent the planter from tipping over. Make sure the planters are sturdy so the wind won’t tip them over.

4. Blend with Real Elements

For an even more realistic look, you can mix in twigs, moss, or even small stones. These natural elements can help blend the artificial flowers seamlessly with the outdoor environment, making the arrangement appear more authentic.

5. Regular Maintenance and Cleaning

Even though artificial flowers require little upkeep, they still need occasional maintenance. Clean the flowers regularly to remove dust and dirt. You can clean them using a soft brush or by gently spraying them down with a hose.

Additional Tip: Consider Seasons

Switch out the flowers and foliage to reflect different seasons. For example, use bright and colorful flowers for summer, warm tones for autumn, and winter greens with artificial berries for the colder months. This will keep your outdoor space looking vibrant and up-to-date throughout the year!

Alright, I get it. I might sound like a broken record here, but hear me out. If you’ve been hanging around for a bit, you know I’m always harping on about decluttering. Why? Because it’s kinda like hitting the reset button before you start adding stuff you might not even need. We all know how quickly clutter can pile up and take over, right? So, before you dive into any decorating, take some time and tidy things up a bit. Get rid of anything you don’t use or need anymore. Trust the process. You’ll thank yourself later. 

Calm Color Scheme

Your bedroom should feel calm and soothing. It’s your place of rest and using calming colors will create a peaceful atmosphere. Gentle colors, soft neutrals like creamy whites, or a muted blue is a good choice that will give you a serene space. 

Furniture Layout

When planning out your furniture layout, think about what pieces you’re bringing into your bedroom and plan accordingly. A good way to position your bed is in the center of the room or against the longest wall. If you’re placing your bed in the center of the room, you’ll want to have two nightstands. Having a nightstand on each side will give the space balance and symmetry. Then, add in other pieces like your dresser, making sure you have ample room to move around and open drawers.

Create a Cozy Sitting Area

If you’ve got the space, adding a cozy sitting area can really elevate your relaxation game. Choose a comfy chair or loveseat, toss in a throw blanket, and voilà – you’ve got the perfect spot to curl up with a book or unwind with a cup of tea.

Mood Lighting

Last but not least, lighting. Lighting can seem like a such a small detail but don’t underestimate the power of mood lighting. Soft, warm lighting can instantly make your bedroom feel more inviting and cozy. Add bedside lamps for reading, a dimmer switch for overhead lights, and maybe even a floor lamp if you have that cozy sitting area.

When trying to create a cozy and warm living room, the first step is to take a look at the lighting. Lighting is extremely important and will help set the stage for a cozy atmosphere. Avoid harsh overhead lighting and instead, layer your lighting sources. Incorporate a variety of task lighting, such as a table lamp, floor lamp, and candles. The bulbs you use are equally important; stay away from cool white light bulbs. This color temperature is commonly found in office buildings, giving off a very cold and uninviting feel. Opt for warm white, around 3000k (kelvin). Remember, the higher the kelvin, the colder the light will be. I prefer buying my light bulbs from Amazon because they offer a wide range of options, and you can practically find any size bulb you need.

Pillows and Blankets

Pillows and soft blankets automatically make you feel cozy. You don’t need to have a ton of throw pillows on your couch to achieve coziness. Choose fabrics that are soft to the touch and incorporate throw blankets that will make you want to reach for them every time you sit and relax on your couch. I prefer purchasing a pillow insert and a pillow cover, which eliminates the need to store an excess of throw pillows.

Plants

Add life to the space with plants! Plants instantly make a space cozy because they are living things. Another plus to adding plants is the opportunity to accessorize the space with beautiful pots and planters, adding yet another layer of coziness. Consider fresh flowers as well – while they can get costly, you can divide one bouquet and use a few vases to spread them around. Aromatherapy

Another easy way to add a cozy touch to your living room is by using scented candles or essential oils. Adding scent to your living room will take the cozy feel up another notch. We all love a space that smells nice, and surrounding yourself with a pleasant scent instantly gives you a mood boost.
