Your desk should be organized and set up to best fit your needs, style, and comfort. It’s not just about aesthetics – it needs to be functional too.
There is nothing more annoying than needing something and not being able to find it. Organizing your items will not only help you know what you have, but it’s also a way to keep an accounting of things that need to be replaced or supplies you’re running low on.
Here are 5 steps to help you organize your desk.

How to Organize Your Desk in 5 Steps
1. Remove Everything
Remove everything and separate it into piles. This is the perfect time to throw out any dried-up pens, highlighters, or markers. If you have an excess of supplies that you don’t need, remove them, and store them as a backup in your supply cabinet or closet. Only keep items you use regularly, this will help minimize the clutter in your workspace.
2. Extra Storage Space
A file cabinet is a great way to keep those files or paperwork laying around your desk organized and off your work space while not being used. This tiered file cabinet will hold your files, printer, books, and more! If you’re working with a smaller area, this file folder rack is a great option.
3. Decide Your Desk Layout
Keep your desktop monitor or laptop in front of you. Place items you constantly use near your dominant hand, like the phone. Remember to have some workspace on your desk.
A desktop riser will help you sit ergonomically and can prevent stress, neck pain, and your eyes from straining. If you work from your laptop I highly recommend using a riser and wireless keyboard.
4. Organize Your Drawers
Drawer organizers are a fantastic way to keep your supplies in order. These drawer organizers are non-slip and can be configured in so many different ways. Place items that you use the most at the front of the drawer for easy access. If you have empty space, that’s a good thing! You don’t need to have a drawer full of supplies to be more productive. Use reusable silicone cable ties to keep the cords tidy.
5. Clean Up
At the end of your busy workday, it’s also a good idea to reset your workspace. When you reset, it allows you to start your day with a clean slate. Another added benefit is you won’t have the visual clutter first thing in the morning.
